The Finish

After experimenting with many different finishes, I settled on Thunderbird, a two part epoxy finish.  I’ve found it to be unmatched in durability, extremely resistant to chipping and scratching.  I apply five coats, more if is an opened grained wood.  Because of long dry times, the epoxy isn’t as fast to push through the spray booth as conversion varnishes or catylized laquers, but the increased durability will ensure the protection of your bow longer.  I like to finish the bows with a satin sheen, but can go glossier if desired.

Over the years, as your bow begins to show signs of wear, it can be shipped back and refinished.  This will generally only tie up your bow for a week at my shop, depending on the extent of wear to the existing finish.  I always try to turn them around as quickly as possible for minimal down time.
